Supporting Balance with Nature's Beneficial Bacteria

The vaginal microbiome is a unique part of the human microbiome, populated by a diverse array of microorganisms. In a healthy vaginal environment, Lactobacilli are the predominant beneficial bacteria, playing a crucial role in maintaining balance and protecting against disruptions.  Most feminine hygiene products only provide surface level solutions.

The Human Vaginal Microbiome

Composition of the Vaginal Microbiome

Every woman has a unique vaginal microbiota, with variations in bacterial communities. Research identifies five main types of these communities: four dominated by beneficial Lactobacillus strains (Lactobacillus crispatus, L. gasseri, L. iners, or L. jensenii), and one with a lower presence or absence of Lactobacilli.

Why Is a Healthy Vaginal Microbiome Crucial to Wellness?

Beneficial bacteria, especially lactobacilli, maintain a healthy vaginal environment by preventing harmful microorganisms from taking hold through various mechanisms:

01

Creating an Unwelcoming Environment for Pathogens

By producing lactic acid, the microbiota creates an acidic environment (pH ≤ 4.5), making it inhospitable to many pathogens

03

A Natural Barrier Against Unwanted Invaders

The microbiota forms a physical barrier, preventing pathogens from adhering to the vaginal walls, while lactobacilli accelerate the renewal of epithelial cells to prevent attachment.

02

Defensive Compounds for Enhanced Protection

Beneficial bacteria release defensive compounds, like hydrogen peroxide and bacteriocins, which target harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi

04

Natural Defenses for Lasting Protection

The microbiota supports the production of protective mucus while boosting the immune system, creating a strong, natural barrier against pathogens.

Vaginal Dysbiosis

Vaginal dysbiosis is an imbalance in the vaginal microbiome, where beneficial bacteria, like lactobacilli, decrease, allowing harmful microorganisms to thrive. This imbalance can lead to discomfort, odor, and other symptoms

The Protective Power of Your Vaginal Microbiota

The vaginal microbiota plays a vital role in defending against harmful bacteria. Beneficial Lactobacillus strains produce lactic acid, lowering the pH to create an inhospitable environment for pathogens. Additionally, Lactobacillus secretes bacteriocins—natural antimicrobials that reinforce this protection. When this natural balance is disturbed, it can lead to issues like yeast infections, BV, or trichomoniasis.

How Can we Take Care of our Vaginal Microbiota?

Probiotics help restore a healthy balance by replenishing beneficial bacteria in the vaginal microbiome. This natural support strengthens the body’s defenses, reducing the chances of discomfort and imbalance associated with vaginal dysbiosis.

Prebiotics act as fuel, encouraging these beneficial bacteria to thrive, creating a resilient, self-sustaining environment.
